“I feel that fine-art is a necessity to balance my soul. I shoot fine-art as a means to express myself and to truly appreciate the beauty of reality. Photography for me is a collaborative process between myself and the subject. It’s something intuitive, impulsive, provocative and spiritual. Art is subjective and as such I believe it should be slightly ambiguous. There should be an element to it that is mysterious and open to interpretation. The beauty of art is that not everyone has to like it. People should be able to express who they are and why they exist through their art, and likewise, viewers should be able to appreciate, accept and reject certain types of art depending on their own personal beliefs, desires, preferences and histories. Art should have a point, but that point should be determined by the viewer.”
Brian Hull is a photographic artist. Born in Providence in 1972, his technical eye was developed while studying engineering for 5 years. Photography entered his life when he started working and apprenticing at the Camera Shop in Attleboro, MA. A graduate of the New York Institute of Photography, Brian currently resides in Providence, RI and owns a photographic studio where he can continually develop and refine his uniquely artistic style. His work has been shown in numerous galleries throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including AS220, Gallery Z, the Attleboro Museum and the Space at Alice. Whether photographic landscapes, still-lifes or fine-art nudes, Brian describes his work as an emotionally romanticized and surrealistic look at human existence. Brian is an active member of the Professional Photographers of America and is currently attending Rhode Island College for another degree in Political Science. |
